    Judge's Responsibilities

    The 80th District Court has jurisdiction in both Clare and Gladwin Counties.  Currently there is one Judge performing duties in both counties.  Typically, the District Court performs the following Duties:

    1)  Criminal and traffic misdemeanors with a one year or less term of imprisonment
         (jury or non jury trials);

    2)  Traffic, state and municipal civil infraction cases;

    3)  Felony and misdemeanor arraignments;

    4)  Felony preliminary examinations;

     5)  Issue arrest and search warrants upon showing of probable cause;

    6)  Civil jury and non jury trials, when the amount in controversy is $25,000.00 or              less

    7) Civil Small Claims, when the amount in controversy is $3,000.00 or less

    8)  Weddings.

The Small Claims division provides an informal and reasonably priced way for citizens to resolve matters involving $3,000.00 or less. The parties may not be represented by attorneys and waive all jury and appeal rights.

The Landlord/Tenant division involves matters known as "summary proceedings" and is also an avenue for landlords and tenants to resolve disputes.
